Hex Converter

About the Hex Converter

Hexadecimal (base 16) is a compact, human-friendly way to represent raw bytes — each byte becomes exactly two hex digits (00-FF), which makes it a common format for displaying binary data like hashes, memory dumps, color codes, and network packets.

This tool converts between plain text, hexadecimal, and Base64 representations of the same underlying bytes, so you can move freely between whichever format the system you're working with expects.

Common use cases

Frequently asked questions

Why is my hex output longer than my original text?

Each character (byte) of your input becomes two hex digits plus a separating space, so hex representations are roughly 2-3x longer than the original text — that's expected and not a sign of an error.

Does this tool accept hex with 0x prefixes or spaces?

Yes — the hex-to-text and hex-to-Base64 conversions strip common formatting like `0x` prefixes, spaces, and commas before parsing, so you can paste hex copied from most tools or programming languages directly.

What does 'invalid hex string' mean?

It means the cleaned-up input has an odd number of characters (hex must come in pairs) or contains characters outside 0-9 and A-F, which can't represent a valid byte sequence.

Can this convert hex color codes like #1bb7ae?

This tool converts hex representing arbitrary byte/text data, not specifically CSS color codes. For colors, use the dedicated Color Converter tool, which understands hex, RGB, and HSL color formats directly.
